Plane Crash Near 49 and Hemp Road: Quick Emergency Response by Alto Fire Department, Lifestar EMS, and Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Officers

At approximately 7:50 PM, a distressing event unfolded as a plane crashed near the vicinity of 49 and Hemp Road. The Fond du Lac County Dispatch Center immediately sprang into action after receiving a call from a concerned witness who had observed the tragic incident and heard the deafening impact.

Confirmation of the Crash

Within moments, the pilot of the ill-fated aircraft contacted the dispatch center, affirming that the plane had indeed gone down and came to a rest in the middle of a field. Fortunately, apart from the crash itself, the pilot conveyed that only one person on board sustained a slight shoulder injury.

Emergency Response Teams Activate

As the clock ticked to 8:17 PM, the Brandon/Fairwater Fire Department received the call to deploy their UTV (Utility Task Vehicle) to assist in the emergency response.

However, by 8:17 PM, the plane's exact location had not been pinpointed by the emergency responders, leading to a renewed effort to establish communication with the pilot. Dispatchers made repeated attempts to reach out to the pilot, seeking a more precise location or any information about the presence of a drone, but regrettably, no response was received.

Request for Aerial Support

In response to the challenging circumstances, the County officers requested the assistance of a drone from the City of Fond du Lac Police Department. Realizing the importance of additional drone support, the Ripon Fire Department was also asked to provide a drone. Nevertheless, due to unforeseen circumstances, the Ripon Fire Department was unable to respond promptly.

Subsequently, at 8:26 PM, the Waupun Fire Department was paged to lend their UTV for the ongoing search and rescue mission.

Clearing the Way for Emergency Responders

In an effort to expedite the search for the downed aircraft, train traffic in the area was temporarily halted to enable emergency responders to utilize the railway tracks as part of their search strategy.

New Information and Revised Location

At 8:30 PM, communication with the pilot was reestablished. The pilot provided updated information, suggesting that responders should focus their efforts west of the Waupun Airport. This new location estimate moved the crash site approximately 4 miles south from the original given location, closer to the Fond du Lac/Dodge County line.

In Sight of the Aircraft

At 8:38 PM, responders caught sight of the plane's lights, finally closing in on the accident site and the survivors.

Assisting the Survivors

By 8:41 PM, Lifestar EMS had made contact with the two individuals on the plane. Plans were set in motion to safely transport them to the road using a UTV.
