Vacation Bible School at Village SDA Church Soars with Flight-Themed Object Lessons

The Vacation Bible School (VBS) at Village SDA Church took flight to new heights by using captivating object lessons related to aviation to inspire children towards heavenly themes. The program's focus extended beyond the classroom, as the children also had the opportunity to make a difference by collecting offerings to support a mission pilot's noble cause in the Philippines.

Inspiring the Young with Aviation Adventures

Under the guidance of Duane Habenicht from the AU Airport, a small aircraft was brought to the Village SDA Church. This exciting experience allowed the kids to explore, touch, and learn about airplanes, igniting their curiosity about flight and mission opportunities. Youth Pastor Junior Vertus took it a step further, introducing a working model aircraft to demonstrate various flight components. Through these activities, the children were taught that Jesus is their pilot through life, guiding them towards a glorious destination.

Immersed in Aviation-Themed Lessons

Throughout the VBS program, aviation served as a metaphor for spiritual growth. The main stage was adorned with a giant aircraft taking off, symbolizing the ascent of faith. One of the crafts involved building small wooden planes, reinforcing the theme and engaging the children's creativity. Moreover, the program incorporated the acronym "PLANE" to present nightly spiritual messages based on stories of faith from the Bible. Each letter represented a different biblical figure: Paul, Lazarus, Abraham, Noah, and Esther, aimed at directing young minds towards a higher purpose.

Supporting a Missionary Effort

The VBS also provided an opportunity to contribute to a meaningful cause. The participants raised funds for Andrew Hosford, a mission pilot in the Philippines, who had recently lost his fiancé in a tragic medical aviation accident. Andrew's mission involved transporting injured individuals to receive medical help, making a positive impact on their lives. The children collected offerings and deposited them into a wooden airplane offering box, beautifully crafted by Barry Wilson.

A Personal Connection with the Mission

The VBS leaders established a direct connection with Andrew Hosford. Kimberly Spare, one of the co-leaders, reached out to him to inquire about any specific needs related to his ministry. The VBS theme, centered around aviation and mission work, resonated with Andrew, who was genuinely delighted to receive support, whether it was in the form of gas or other supplies. A pre-recorded video from Andrew was shared with the children, wherein he explained his mission of flying people from remote islands to the mainland hospital, emphasizing the importance of trusting God's guidance during flights through clouds.

Inspiring Kids for Global Proclamation

The idea for the aviation-themed VBS theme came from Kimberly Spare, inspired by her daughter's love for airplanes and the significance of the three angel's messages within the Adventist faith. The airplane theme served as a compelling analogy to convey the message of spreading good news across the world. Kimberly's dedication to VBS stems from her passion for children, aiming to help them establish a firm foundation in Jesus Christ that will accompany them through their lives and into eternity. Having experienced the VBS program herself as a child at Village SDA Church, Kimberly is now blessed to see her own children actively volunteer and contribute.

Successful VBS Program and Growing Participation

The VBS program, led by Kimberly Spare and Sue Mondak, has been a resounding success year after year. With over 300 registered children and approximately 100 volunteers participating each night, the program has created an engaging and nurturing environment. Special focus was given to the younger children, including a 4-and-under group of about 70 kids, who were led by Sue Mondak in praising God through songs and stories.

Harvesting Positive Impact and Blessings

The results of the VBS program have been heartwarming and uplifting. Volunteer Vickie Hess witnessed the joy on the children's faces as they returned every evening. Testimonies from parents revealed the profound impact the program had on the children, with some being so enthralled that they didn't want to leave. The program also promoted a sense of community, as children brought their siblings and friends to be part of the blessing.

A Bright Future of Faithful Mission

The Village SDA Church's VBS program has successfully planted seeds of faith in the young hearts, inspiring them to soar above life's challenges and actively participate in spreading the gospel worldwide. By supporting mission pilot Andrew Hosford's cause, the children learned the importance of compassion and service. With the hope that some of the kids may join him in the future, Andrew's parting message to the children was, "Maybe when you grow up, you can join me here in the Philippines. May God bless you." This VBS program has undoubtedly made
